A group of scientists exploring the Marianas Trench encounter the largest marine predator that has ever existed - the Megalodon.
As much as it tries to emulate Deep Blue Sea this shark monster movie never quite achieves its humor and campiness (and tries to top it with even more stupid science), but is nevertheless mildly entertaining.
Unscrupulous boxing promoters, violent bookmakers, a Russian gangster,
incompetent amateur robbers, and supposedly Jewish jewelers fight to
track down a priceless stolen diamond.
Another Tarantino wannabe ruffians satire with some interesting performances, but also offering some disagreeable humor and a hardly coherent plot; the makers are obviously quite convinced of their own cleverness.
Halliwell*: "Chaotic and hectic thriller involving American, Russian and English low-life, Irish gypsies and dodgy boxing promoters; the narrative moves quickly without getting out of the morass, while Brad Pitt goes over the top in a parody of his Fight Club role."
Maltin***: "Writer-director Ritchie's follow-up to LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS is a similarly energized, violent farce about sleazy underworld...Pitt is amusing as a garble-mouthed Irish gypsy fighter. Fresh, funny, and full of punch."
A story of human colonists on Mars who must be rescued after becoming possessed by vengeful Martian ghosts.
This is like Assault on Precinct 13 set into a sci-fi context, but
compared to that masterpiece this has a very messy script, mediocre
performances and a silly, superfluous and irritating
flashback-in-a-flashback dramaturgy.
On second view: still not good, but has some entertainment value.
Halliwell (no star): "Quaint, old-fashioned sf adventure, with a feeble premise for some unexciting action."
Maltin*1/2: "Routine, predictable, and dull: unimaginatively, the Martian-possessed people adopt a punk/grunge look."
Homeless and on the run from a military court martial, a damaged
ex-special forces soldier navigating London's criminal underworld seizes
an opportunity to assume another man's identity -- transforming into an
avenging angel in the process.
Though not without some violence, this movie avoids action thriller cliches and tells its story with subtlety and offers depth to the characters.
When his mentor is taken captive by a disgraced Arab sheik, a
killer-for-hire is forced into action to kill three members
of Britain's elite Special Air Service responsible for the death of his
sons.
Competent action-thriller that somehow doesn't compel with its overladen plot.
Maltin**1/2: "Rugged, well-actedactioner raises intriguing questions about morality and abuse of power, only to abandon them in favor of the usual slam-bang Stathem heroics."
