The Blues Brothers (1980)

Jake Blues, just out from prison, puts together his old band to save the Catholic home where he and brother Elwood were raised.

Highly entertaining mischief full of music, propellent sequence of dramatic and humorous situations and a record-breaking number of pile-ups (mostly police cars).

Halliwell*: "Fashionable chase comedy with so many stunts that its cost ran up to 33,000,000 dollars. The public stayed away, though it gained a cult following since."

Maltin***: "Engagingly nutty comedy...Off the wall from start to finish, with some fine music woven in..."

Shadowheart (2009)

James Conners comes home to the town of Legend, New Mexico in 1865 to avenge his fathers death against the ruthless Will Tunney. Along the way he re-captures his long lost love Mary Cooper. With the chance to take Will Tunney he must choose revenge or redemption.

Old-fashioned Western, made as if directly out of a do-it-yourself kit, barely average and highly forgettable.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

A young F.B.I. cadet must confide in an incarcerated and manipulative killer to receive his help on catching another serial killer who skins his victims.

A masterpiece of clever filmmaking and a formidable cast turning otherwise routine serial killer schlock into a fascinating of straightforward art; also a game changer that nearly instantly stopped the video nasties debate.

Halliwell***: "Tense, exciting and sometimes gruesome thriller, suspenseful enough to make you overlook its essential absurdities. Hopkins plays the role of the devious Lecter with lip-smacking relish."

Maltin***1/2: "Almost unbearably intense, brilliantly acted (by Foster and Hopkins), and cannily put together - though the subject is at times repellent."
