Filmmaker Helena Coan examines the remarkable life and career of actress, fashion icon and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn.

Documentary does attempt to give a comprehensive biography portrait of Audrey Hepburn, but actually doesn't reveal any new insight; the staged ballet sequences, however, are unnecessarily interruptious, superficial and quite off-putting.

A young New York socialite becomes interested in a young man who has moved into her apartment building, but her past threatens to get in the way. 

Not really a faithful adaptation of Truman Capote's novella, the plot is quite messy and the male lead a bland miscast; nevertheless, this movie became an instant classic thanks to a lively and witty direction and the irresistibly charming Audrey Hepburn.

On re-watching: Despite all its flaws this is a movie I come back to every soften mainly for Audrey and quite a few memorable scenes.

Halliwell*: "Impossibly cleaned up and asexual version of a light novel which tried to be the American I am a Camera (qv). Wild parties, amusing scenes and good cameos, but the pace is slow, the atmosphere is unconvincingly clean and luxurious, and the sentimentality kills it."

Maltin***1/2: "Charming film...Dated trappings don't detract from high comedy and winning romance."

The Unforgiven (1960)

The neighbors of a frontier family turn on them when it is suspected that their adopted daughter was stolen from the local Kiowa tribe.

Large-scale, star-cast, epic Western with a blatant anti-racist message is ambitious but somehow misses the point it wants to make.

Halliwell*: "Good-looking, expensive but muddled racist Western, hard to enjoy."

Maltin***: "Gish and Bickford are outstanding in stellar-cast story, with rousing Indian attack climax."

Bloodline (1979)

When her father is murdered, a pharmaceutical heiress becomes the next target of an unknown killer amid the international jet set.

From memory: Despite all the effort in production value and an all-star cast this is a disappointingly messy and barely mediocre thriller.

Halliwell (no star): "Involved all-star-suspense shocker which seems constantly about to be better than it ever is."

Maltin BOMB: "Unbearable adaptation..."
