Little Women (2019)

Jo March reflects back and forth on her life, telling the beloved story of the March sisters - four young women, each determined to live life on her own terms.

Lively, beautifully set and photographed, excellently cast adaptation of the classic and beloved novel; however, the non-linear telling of the tale diminishes the impact of the romances and tragedies and seems to assume the audience already has full knowledge of the story.

The Circle (2017)

A woman lands a dream job at a powerful tech company called the Circle, only to uncover an agenda that will affect the lives of all of humanity.

Nicely made, well-intentioned, but quite sketchy satire only hastily takes aim at its topic and has hardly any punch; even the star cast is not much challenged.

Ballet Shoes (2007)

The story of three orphan girls, adopted by an eccentric explorer, Great Uncle Matthew, and his niece Sylvia, in 1930s London.

Pleasant and not too saccharine period piece is nicely made with an excellent cast; an above-average TV production.

The Bling Ring (2013)

A group of fame-obsessed teenagers use the internet to track celebrities' whereabouts in order to rob their homes.

Lively and obviously realistic reconstruction of actual events, but presented without any analysis or satire it seems nearly as hollow as its protagonists.

Maltin*1/2: "Comedic take on rather incredible real-life events make it hard to figure out who is more vapid, the teens or the victims...This  is simply a shallow retelling of the tabloid-driven story. Genuinely pointless."

Noah (2014)

Noah is chosen by his world's creator to undertake a momentous mission before an apocalyptic flood cleanses the world.

Idiosyncratic, risky and not fully successful artistic attempt to reinterpret the Biblical Flood narrative; it has great visuals, some moving moments and even suspense, but can also be plain silly - not that far advanced to Cecil B. DeMille's movies.

Maltin***: "Inventive expansion of the biblical tale...Disparate elements don't blend seamlessly - the rock creatures, known as Watchers, seem to come from a Ray Harryhausen picture - but there is much to admire. The building of the ark and the coming of the flood are truly impressive. Crowe has never been better, Hopkins adds an unexpected light touch as Methuselah, and Winstone is a formidable villain."
