In the distant future, a man appears who may be the prophet that a long-suffering galaxy has been waiting for.

Visually compelling and with imaginative styling as you'd expect from the director, the plot has been overloaded so that the sci-fi epic seems more summarized than actually adapted.

On re-watching: Still good to look at, but the narrative is simply not convincing nor much coherent either.

Halliwell (no star): "A basically simple space fiction plot is immensely complicated by a welter of characters who are not properly introduced and who indeed are mostly irrelevant. The result, which cost nearly 50 million dollars, is inaudible, invisible (because of dim lighting) and unentertaining: a disaster of the very first order."

Maltin*1/2: "Elephantine adaptation...You know you're in trouble when film's opening narration...is completely incomprehensible! Visually imaginative, well cast, but joyless and oppressive - not to mention long. For devotees of Herbert's novel only."

Duran Duran: Unstaged (2014)

 

 

Duran Duran Unstaged is a multimedia event that takes the audience on a cinematic journey with one of the most successful acts in the world during their performance at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles.

 

This is simply a rock concert with a David Lynch light show; although the projected images are easily identifiable as confluent with the director's style, this was certainly more impressive live and mostly of interest for the band's fans and Lynch completists.

 

 

Ant Head (2018)

A short video featuring my friends the ants along with cheese, etc. and one-and-a-half tracks from the Thought Gang album.

Minimalist and appropriately weird music video for some music of David Lynch's band Thought Gang; obviously intended as advertisement for their album and less so as a work of art.

Fire (PoZar) (2020)

Fire, given by a mysterious figure, creates a hole in the world through which something terrible enters and leaves the world burned and overrun by strange insect figures.

Surreal, nightmarish tale of an apocalypse with no shine of hope;  a David Lynch miniature masterpiece enhanced by Marek Zebrowski's expressionistic score.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992)

A young FBI agent disappears while investigating a murder miles from Twin Peaks that may be related to the future murder of Laura Palmer; the last week of the life of Laura Palmer is chronicled.

What Did Jack Do? (2017)

A detective is seated at a table interrogating a talking monkey and suspected murderer named Jack.

Fine David Lynch faux-noir short  displays the director's surreal, dark sense of humor that most likely will appeal those in the know.
