Rocketman (2019)

A musical fantasy about the story of Elton John's breakthrough years.

Well-made musical biography includes both the ups and downs of Elton John's career; the musical bits are good and the performances, especially Taron Egerton's, extraordinary.

The Sweeney (2012)

A hardened detective in the Flying Squad of London's Metropolitan police.

Like the TV series it is based on, a tough and politically shady crime thriller; all around professionally made, but targeted to fans of the genre.

Good (2008)

A novel about a mercy killing brings a German professor to the attention of the Nazi Party, which now wants him to write a treatise on euthanasia to justify the "final solution."

Well-intentioned, but highly botched character study about an intellectual unintentionally being drawn into the Nazi system; the star does his best to fight the inconsistencies of the plot, but fails; the 'revealing' end sequence at the concentration camp is staged as a ridiculous tunnel of horror ride and is on the verge of being offensive.

Maltin**: "Ineffectual and unsatisfying, considering the dramatic, ingredients."
