The Lake House (2006)

A lonely doctor, who once occupied an unusual lakeside house, begins exchanging love letters with its former resident, a frustrated architect. They must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it's too late.

Silly and schmaltzy romantic drama doesn't care much to make us believe its far-fetched premise.

Maltin**1/2: "Romantic drama stretches credulity (to put it mildly) but still creates a moodiness that's intriguing...enough to allow a willing viewer to go along for the ride."

The Bad Batch (2016)

In a desert dystopia, a young woman is kidnapped by cannibals.

Title very well matches the tone of this above-average dystopian drama; extremely violent and unsavory, but worth the watch.

Replicas (2018)

A scientist becomes obsessed with bringing back his family members who died in a traffic accident.

Mediocre sci-fi nonsense would have been more entertaining, if it showed some irony, but it doesn't.

Something's Gotta Give (2003)

A swinger on the cusp of being a senior citizen with a taste for young women falls in love with an accomplished woman closer to his age.

Highly entertaining romantic comedy with the two leads obviously enjoying their job, although a bit too long and losing momentum towards the ending.

Halliwell*: "Overlong romantic comedy that begins well, but soon goes sitcom soggy; Nicholson resorts to his most familiar mannerisms, while Keaton's over-emotional performance makes one wish she'd act her age."

Maltin**: "Entertaining comedy for (and about) grown-ups with delightful performances by the two leads."

Exposed (2016)

A police detective investigates the truth behind his partner's death. The mysterious case reveals disturbing police corruption and a dangerous secret involving an unlikely young woman.

Strangely muddled crime story with supernatural tidbits has some good set pieces, but simply doesn't add up to a coherent narrative.

John Wick (2014)

An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him.

Above-average actioner which offers a lot of neatly choreographed action and a high body count, but is otherwise unremarkable - well, if you ignore the fact that the hero is avenging the killing of his puppy.

The Neon Demon (2016)

When an aspiring model moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.

Visually gorgeous and mesmerizing tale that takes its view of the beauty industry to a morbid and slightly ironic extreme.
