I See You (2019)

 

 

Strange occurrences plague a small town detective and his family as he investigates the disappearance of a young boy.

Tense crime drama with a few too many twists to its plot; however, well-made, good cast, watchable.

A Good Woman (2004)

While retaining her secret identity, the illustrious Mrs. Erlynne saves Lady Windemere from making a grand social faux-pas with the scoundrelly Lord Darlington.

This Oscar Wilde adaptation is nice to look at with its Italian surroundings and neatly costumed stars, but it fully misses the original's excitement and wit; instead, the audience is showered with a cascade of the author's aphorisms (and not just from the play, but from all other sources as well).

As Good as It Gets (1997)

A single mother/waitress, a misanthropic author, and a gay artist form an unlikely friendship after the artist is in an accident.

Well cast and highly entertaining comedy drama becomes quite sentimental in its final moments, but Jack Nicholson as the old misanthrope is well worth the show.

Halliwell***: "A sour-toned comedy about damaged people that, for all its occasional glibness and th ease with which its prblems are solved, somehow works; it convinces as long as the movie lasts."

Maltin***1/2: "Wonderful comedy-drama...takes the viewer on an emotional journey, with laughs and tears along the way."

Every Day (2010)

A New York City couple find themselves in romantic and family crises.

More melodrama than comedy, this movie is competently directed and lives through its excellent cast, but packs in a few problems too many and loses on credibility.

Maltin**1/2: "Well-cast film...Director Levine's screenplay offers no revelations, but it's reasonably credible and the performances are solid."

Then She Found Me (2007)

A 39-year-old woman's childish husband and school teacher colleague leaves her, but with her biological clock ticking ever more loudly.

A comedy drama that pretty much piles up the problems a single woman can have (which limits the humor), but has its merits with a competent and lively cast.
