A swarm of locusts appears on the horizon near a Midwestern town, and
the inhabitants must find a way to destroy or divert them before the
insects devour the area's valuable crops.
Mediocre TV drama is centered on a lopsided father/son relationship, locusts are only added to the plot to create some more urgency, but that doesn't really work well.
The merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals Niki Lauda and James Hunt.
Daniel Brühl is perfect cast as Niki Lauda in this well-made and entertaining buddy-rival story.
Maltin**1/2: "Screenwriter Peter Morgan...tries to spin gold from another real.life story, but this isn't necessarily the stuff of great drama - except on the track, where director Howard uses his filmmaking know-how to create a vivid, visceral experience."
During an adventure into the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his
future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before
joining the Rebellion.
Solid Star Wars spin-off with the
usual good effects and effective action and a competent cast for the task; Alden Ehrenreich, especially,
does an excellent job emulating the young Han Solo.
NASA must devise a strategy to return Apollo 13 to Earth safely after
the spacecraft undergoes massive internal damage putting the lives of
the three astronauts on board in jeopardy.
Top-notch production (and special effects) and cast guarantee for an entertaining, but not quite original or surprising space adventure.
Halliwell**: "A gripping documentary-style recreation of an averted tragedy, excellently done but one that is an uncritical celebration of the American way and which makes no attempt to put the mission into a wider historical context; it settles for simple patriotism."
Maltin***1/2: "Exhilarating story...A rare instance where special effects actually serve the story and help make it completely credible; perfect 1970s period detail is another asset."
