Ai no bôrei (1978)

A married woman and her lover murder her husband and dump his body into a well. After a while, his ghost comes to haunt them while the local gossip grows stronger.

Basically this is a very classic ghost story, but after his Ai no corrida it seems Oshima needed to add some strong sex scenes.;nevertheless, they do not distract from the main story, but actually accentuate the passion involved.

Halliwell*: "A drama of lust, love and guilt set in a small, close-knit community; its formal quality distances the audience from the action so that it remains for the most part uninvolving."

Maltin**: "Boring, despite interesting subject matter."
