Mon pire cauchemar (2011)

After two guys become best friends, one's mom -- a prim, proper career woman -- meets the other's dad, who lives out of his van.

Modern-day screwball comedy is more satirical than humorous; against all odds, Isabelle Huppert and Benoît Poelvoorde make it work.

36 Quai des Orfèvres (2004)

In the underbelly of the Parisian criminal world, the police are frustrated by a gang committing a series of violent robberies, while two cops are seeking promotion, and the imminent departure of the Chief of Police sets the scene for them to compete for the vacant throne.

Excellent tough and very bleak policier exposes police corruption as just as terrifying as the criminal world.

Diplomatie (2014)

A historical drama that depicts the relationship between Dietrich von Choltitz, the German military governor of occupied Paris, and Swedish consul-general Raoul Nordling.

Stage-struck adaptation of a play has a good cast and is well-intentioned, but is obviously aimed for educational screenings at schools than for a cinema.

A wallet lost and found opens the door to a romantic adventure.

 

Quirky, almost surreal romantic comedy, elegantly directed; likable, but so slight that it reamins unremarkable.
