Ms .45 (1981)

A timid and mute seamstress goes insane after being attacked and raped twice in one day, in which she takes to the streets of New York City after dark and randomly shoots men with a .45 caliber pistol.

From memory: High stylized, violent and erotic female revenge thriller has an unusual, very original take on the genre and is rightfully a cult classic by now.

Maltin**1/2: "Well-mde, violent role-inversal formula film with echoes of PSYCO, REPULSION, CARRIE, etc., which won some strong reviews and a cult reputation."

The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009)

A drug- and gambling-addled detective in post-Katrina New Orleans investigates the killing of five Senegalese immigrants.

Abel Ferrara's masterpiece is stripped down to a hypnotic, at times surreal crime thriller within a world of lost moral barriers; the movie is mainly successful due to Nicolas Cage's intense performance.

Maltin***: "Wacky police procedural...a long, tawdry, wide-ranging yarn in which the good guys  and bad guys are hard to differentiate. Cage is terrific in a no-holds-barred performance. Bear no resemblance to the 1992 film..."

Pasolini (2014)

A kaleidoscopic look at the last day of Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini in 1975.

Demure, but intense and intriguing study with a great performance by Willem Dafoe in the title role doesn't shy away from the complexity of Pasolini's personality.

Welcome to New York (2014)

A powerful French politician goes on trial for sexually assaulting a chambermaid in his Manhattan hotel room.

A sulphurous and unshrouded attack at the French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn irrespective of good taste; the movie is quite effective in what it wants to achieve.
