Mad Max (1979)

In a self-destructing world, a vengeful Australian policeman sets out to stop a violent motorcycle gang.

From memory: Basically a revenge story set in a post-apocalyptic world, this fast-moving movie is populated with a bunch of wild characters and offers lots of inventively staged action and mayhem, made by a director with obvious talent for this genre.

Halliwell*: "Violent extravaganza with no real merit save its enthusiasm for destruction of both bikes and bodies."

Maltin***1/2: "Weird atmosphere and characters combine with amazing stunt work in this remarkable action film."

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

A woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in post apocalyptic Australia in search for her homeland with the help of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper, and a drifter named Max.

An amazing action fantasy, professionally made in all departments, creating a mad apocalyptic world with a cast of interesting characters and showcasing some of the best action sequences ever seen on screen; it not only tops all previous attempts in the series, but probably will be the litmus test for future action movies to come.

In the post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland, a cynical drifter agrees to help a small, gasoline rich, community escape a band of bandits.

Superior post-apocalyptic action thriller with colourful characters, great landscapes and well-staged action scenes.

Halliwell*: "Not much more than a retread of the above [i.e. Mad Max], but a more expensive, spectacular and violent one."

Maltin***1/2: "Far less original script-wise, but trend-setting visual design and some of the most unbelievable car stunts ever filmed make this equal to, if not better than, the first one."

 

New acquisition: Mad Max 2 (1981)

I must admit that I've haven't seen it before, but it's only just now that I got my hands on an uncut copy.
