Woyzeck (1979)

Franz Woyzeck is a hapless, hopeless soldier, alone and powerless in society, assaulted from all sides by forces he can not control.

From memory: Werner Herzog's adaptation of Georg Büchner's classic play was filmed an d cut in 18 days, and the quick-shot production does show in the minimalist settings, but Klaus Kinski's intense, over-heated performance remains quite memorable.

Halliwell**: "Deft, swift tragedy of a fragmented play, with a powerful performance from Kinski as a man trying to exist in a world he cannot comprehend."

Maltin**1/2: "Minor Herzog..."

La figlia di Frankenstein (1971)

When Dr. Frankenstein is killed by a monster he created, his daughter and his lab assistant continue his experiments.

Sleazy and lurid variation on the Frankenstein tale is a typical example for 70s Italian horror, so it offers a lot to see and some Gothic atmosphere, but is plain silly most of the time.

Maltin BOMB: "Poor horror entry..."

Egon Schiele - Exzesse (1980)

The life of cursed painter Egon Shiele, specialized in nudes, and on his late conflicting love for two women.

From memory: Opulent and somewhat sleazy biopic of the artist most certainly fails to portray him and his period accurately.

Halliwell (no star): "Uninvolving biopic of the Austrian Expressionist Egon Schiele (1890-1918), which gives the impression that he never painted anything other than naked women."
