Hi, Mom! (1970)

 

A Vietnam vet moves into an apartment and views in other people's windows across the street, meets one of the women, and discovers black theater. 

Another early De Palma satire this time around has a more focused narrative with Robert De Niro as its main protagonist, better, if not always good humor and some imaginative sequences.

Halliwell*: "Busy comedy of the drop-out life, full of random satirical jabs and homages to other filmmakers."

 

 

The Wedding Party (1969)

 

Buddies try to talk a bridegroom out of it, after meeting the bride's stuffy parents.

Chatty, wildly meandering satire has its moments, but only occasionally shows much wit, and generally outstays its welcome.

Maltin*1/2: "Talky, corny, boring comic oddity...Self-consciously directed..." 

Brewster McCloud (1970)

An introverted loner living in the bowels of the Astrodome plots to develop - with the aid of a mysterious guardian angel - a pair of wings that will help him fly.

Lively, wild and chaotic comedy is only occasionally funny; seems to want to say something about flying and freedom, but doesn't really.

Halliwell (no star): "Anarchic, allegorical fantasy, a delight no doubt for connoisseurs of way-out humour. Everyone else, forget it."

Maltin***: "Patently indescribable movie...Extremely bizarre; for certain tastes, extremely funny. Altman fans have a head start."

Sisters (1973)

The Staten Island apartment of lovely model Danielle becomes the scene of a grisly murder that is witnessed by her neighbor, Grace, a reporter, but the police don't believe her story.
