Asylum (1972)

In order to secure a job at a mental institution, a young psychiatrist must interview four patients inside the asylum.

From memory: Well made horror anthology with some nasty bits has the usual issue that the quality of the episodes differs quite a bit.

 Halliwell*: "Lively horror compilation with echoes of Caligari and Dead of Night. Gruesomeness sometimes overdone."

Maltin***: "Four fun chillers..."

Dementia 13 (1963)

Members of an Irish family are being killed off by one of their own who wishes to inherit the family fortune.

Francis Ford Coppola's mainstream debut is a superior horror B picture and, despite the obvious genre restrictions, shows some artistic aspirations, especially concerning the b/w expressionistic photography and plot development. 

Halliwell*: "Nastily effective macabre piece with interesting credits."

Maltin**: "Gory horror film...filmed for about 29¢ for Roger Corman; may be worth a look for curiosity's sake."

Pope Joan (1972)

The medieval legend of Pope Joan, a woman, who was made Pope for a brief period around 855 A.D.

Despite some production value and a star cast this quite pedestrian movie hardly makes much out of a rather spectacular story.

Halliwell (no star): "Uninspiring pageant, brutish and rather silly, full of would-be medieval sensationalism."

Maltin BOMB: "Dim story...Performers seem to be embarrassed, as well as they should..."

Rag Doll (1961)

A teenage runaway meets with both love and misfortune when she takes a job as a waitress in a London establishment.
