A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world.

From memory: This film is a perfect children's pic that will appeal to the whole family, it's heart-warming, uplifting as well as thrilling, presents top-notch special effects and a remarkable cast of kids, and of course: the most lovable alien in cinema history.

Halliwell****: "Stupefyingly successful box-office fairy tale by the current wonder kid Soielberg, taken to the world's heart because he dares to make films without sex, violence or bad language: This one could hardly be simpler, but it works; and the ailing cinema would love to know how to repeat the trick several times a year."

Maltin****: "A warm, insightful story of childhood innocence, frustration, courage, and love...with a remarkable  "performance" by E.T. An exhilarating experience for young and old alike."

 

A Little Trip to Heaven (2005)

A husband and wife tangle with an investigator over her dead brother's million-dollar insurance policy.

Highly construed crime drama with a nice touch of noir and watchable for its atmosphere and good performances.

Bitter Moon (1992)

On a cruise heading for India, a young couple meet another, highly unconventional couple, an American unpublished writer in a wheelchair and his much younger Parisian wife, who insist on telling their unsettling life story.

Overlong and quite dated tale of a sadomasochistic amour fou that tries to go all the way, but risks some silly scenes as well.

Halliwell (no star): "Incoherent melodrama of the corruption of innocence; but we've aal been here too many times before for this treatment to carry any appeal."

Maltin**1/2: "Deliciously trashy tale...Often overwrought, with laughable dialogue and not-to-be-believed sex scenes. Aguilty pleasure to be sure."

Good Kill (2014)

A family man begins to question the ethics of his job as a drone pilot.

Well-intentioned drama with a great lead performance by Ethan Hawke does give some shocking insight into the drone warfare, but falls short of showing any political implications.
