The Report (2019)

Idealistic Senate staffer Daniel J. Jones, tasked by his boss to lead an investigation into the CIA's post 9/11 Detention and Interrogation Program, uncovers shocking secrets.

Well-told and sober account of the investigation into one the darkest chapters of American history is gripping and suspenseful; the excellent cast helps.

Colossal (2016)

Gloria is an out-of-work party girl forced to leave her life in New York City and move back home, but when reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, she gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this phenomenon.

Strange, slightly amusing mix of a domestic alcohol abuse story and a monster movie nicely moves along its absurd premise, but isn't really very exciting.
