Lady in the Death House (1944)

A young woman is on death row for the murder of a man who was blackmailing her family, although she claims she was framed.

Likable, but highly unconvincing low-budget drama is gloomy and well-played, but otherwise unremarkable.

After an unusual meteor shower leaves most of the human population blind, a merchant navy officer must find a way to conquer tall, aggressive plants which are feeding on people and animals.

This isn't really a good movie - the plot itself is hilariously silly - but it has an (unintended) dreamlike,  surreal quality to ist scenes and situations, so I'll have to admit it's one of my guilty pleasures since my childhood.

Halliwell*: "Rough and ready adaptation of a famous sci-fi novel, sometimes blunderingly effective and with moments of good trick work."

Hollow Triumph (1948)

Pursued by the big-time gambler he robbed, a criminal takes a new identity, with ironic results.

An unnecessarily contrived plot mars an otherwise OK thriller with a good cast and some Noir elements.

Halliwell (no star): "Cheap suspense thriller with no suspense and no surprises."
