The Lighthouse (2019)

Two lighthouse keepers try to maintain their sanity whilst living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.

Captured in meticulous b/w cinematography, set in a barren landscape and with extraordinary performances by the two leads, this is a dark, at times almost surreal tale of the two men's descent into a mutual love-hate relationship and ultimately into horror and madness.

The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015)

A family in 1630s New England is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession.

Less horror movie and rather a finely observed anthropological reconstruction of an age in which naive religiosity and superstition defined man's view of nature; wonderfully played and excellently photographed.
