The Cured (2017)

A disease that turns people into zombies has been cured. The once-infected zombies are discriminated against by society and their own families, which causes social issues to arise. This leads to militant government interference.

An original, a bit artsy, but not too exciting take on the zombie genre makes good use of its cast and Irish settings.

Into the Forest (2015)

After a massive power outage, two sisters learn to survive on their own in their isolated woodland home.

Somber and intense doomsday drama eschews superficial effects and rather offers a good sense of solitude and abandonment and convincing performances by Page and Wood (although they're both well beyond the age of being the teenagers they are impersonating).

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.

Visually pleasing and action-ridden installment in the X-Men series is unfortunately over-populated with mutants and stuffed with so many sub-plots that it's difficult to comprehend the individual intentions and rivalries.

Maltin***: "Provocative idea is overcome at times by visual bombast, but the ticking-clock structure works well. New mutants in the future segments don't get much to do;..Not quite a bull's-eye, but still highly watchable for devoted fans, who will also cheer a handful of cameos."

Smart People (2008)

Into the life of a widowed professor comes a new love and an unexpected visit from his adopted brother.

Mildly entertaining and well played, but unspectacular story with a simple message: smart people don't have it easy, too.

Halliwell**1/2: "Bittersweet comedy-drama isn't uninteresting but the script feels undernourished."
