From memory: Quite conservative bio-pic celebrates the Pope John Paul II
and Polish Catholicism, but along the way, almost as an aside, it does
give a more accurate picture of Polish history from World War II up to
the date, when the Pope visits his home
country.
When a structural-security authority finds himself set up and
incarcerated in the world's most secret and secure prison, he has to use
his skills to escape with help from the inside.
Mainly efficient, but unambitious sci-fi actioner is watchable for its nice pairing of Stallone and Schwarzenberger.
Maltin**1/2: "Better-than-expected prison drama...Blessedly old-fashioned vehicle for Stallone allows him to be tough as nails...Totally ludicrous but entertaining on its own terms. It's fun to watch Sly and Arnold together."
Young and beautiful Lara is loved by three men: a revolutionary, a
mogul, and a doctor. Their lives become intertwined with the drama of
Russian revolution.
TV adaptation with high production value and
capable cast is long-drawn-out and not really an improvement to David
Lean's version.
On rewatching: My first impression was correct; nice to watch, if you have the time.
A rescue crew investigates a spaceship that disappeared into a black
hole and has now returned...with someone or something new on-board.
Although this sci-fi shocker has quite a messy plot, it is indeed fairly effective and has some quite natsy scenes; the star cast helps, too, a bit.
Halliwell (no star): "Creepy horror movie in outer space that delivers the requisite shocks; a little predictability would have been welcome, though."
Maltin**: "Well-acted movie begins promisingly but becomes increasingly unlikely; offers no explanation for the strange events. Some intense horror scenes."
The former gangster is also a man alone, estranged from his family and
focused only on business. But when he receives a mysterious letter on
Christmas Eve, Tommy realises that the Shelbys are in danger of
annihilation.
Season 4 successfully continues with the expected excellence of the previous season, this time with a more straightforward plot introducing the New York mafia threatening the Peaky Blinders racket; Adrien Brody is visibly enjoying his role as a bona fide mafia boss.
Series 3 begins with the long-anticipated wedding of Thomas Shelby,
where his family find themselves in danger of a mysterious guest. Tommy
dives into a mission of intrigue, finding himself in situations more
deadly than anything he has come across before.
The expansion of the Peaky Blinders saga (and empire) is as compelling and fascinating as ever, although the Russian conspiracy and jewelry heist is complex and difficult to follow.
The Peaky Blinders looking to expand their operation into London but they
upset some powerful people in doing so. Later; with the help of Tommy,
Polly steps up her search for her missing son; Tommy initiates his plan
to take over the southern racecourses; and with new ally Arthur in tow,
the Peaky Blinders make a serious move on London's Eden Club.
Successful continuation and expansion of the gangster saga with some new interesting characters, of which Tom Hardy's Alfie Solomons is especially fascinating; the finale is almost unbearably suspenseful.
A gangster family epic set in 1919 Birmingham, England; centered on a gang who sew razor blades in the peaks of their caps, and their fierce boss Tommy Shelby. Excellent gangster drama with meticulous period detail and an impressive cast of characters; very suspenseful and violent. The selection of songs on the soundtrack are an attraction in itself.

A decidedly odd couple with ulterior motives convince Dr. Alan Grant to
go to Isla Sorna (the second InGen dinosaur lab.), resulting in an
unexpected landing and unexpected new inhabitants on the island.
Moderately entertaining third part of the series, again the dinosaurs steal the show.
On rewatching: I still agree with my initial opinion about the dinosaurs; the movie is streamlined for straight entertainment and delivers, but offers nothing more.
Halliwell (no star): "Hectic chase movie that, jettisoning the slight intellectual content of the first two movies, concentrates on shocks and thrills, which it delivers effectively."
Maltin***: "Entertaining popcorn movie that takes a formula and plays it for all its worth...Full of scares, and lots of fun: proof that a thrill-ride type of movie doesn't have to be dumb...or overlong."
A woman starts exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking
her husband for a divorce, but suspicions of infidelity soon give way to
something much more sinister.
A feverish domestic drama turns into a surreal horror shocker with deliberately way-over-the-top performances; obviously meant as an allegory, but remains indecipherable.
Halliwell (no star): "Extraordinary horror movie pitched at a level of hysteria and, with its setting of a divided Berlin, no doubt is intended as an allegory, though of what, among the blood and gore, attitudinizing and demented performances, is anybody's guess."
Maltin*1/2: "Confusing drama of murder, horror, intrigue, though it's all attractively directed."
