Medea (1969)

After his quest to retrieve the fabled Golden Fleece, Jason returns to Greece with the powerful sorceress, Medea. However, when the king banishes her, it's only human that Medea plots her furious revenge.

From memory: Operatic interpretation of Euripides' play focused on the revenge story is fascinatingly staged in historic locations and garbs, but is clearly observed by a modern-day viewpoint.

Halliwell*: "In modern terms the case history of a psychopath, this weird production plays like an opera without music, and seems to have been designed as a vehicle for its charismatic star."
