Grey Gardens (1975)

An old mother and her middle-aged daughter, the aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy, live their eccentric lives in a filthy, decaying mansion in East Hampton.

Almost unbearably intimate documentary gives the eccentric ladies room to present themselves and their surreal and disconcerting relationship, but still retains the enigma of their lives.

Maltin***: "Tasteless, suspect, but riveting documentary...Fascinating for voyeurs, but film would have had more depth had we been given a better picture of mother and daughter in their youth."
