Animalympics (1980)

The animal kingdom stages its own Olympic games.

From memory: lively, but only partially entertaining spoof, since the individual episodes vary in quality and length.

Halliwell (no star):  "A lively, though insequential, animated spoof of the Olympics, with a US bias; its hyperactive style, though, seems alongside the hysteria of TV coverage of the actual event."

Maltin**: "Animated spoof...Enough clever, funny material for a good short subject, but stretched to feature length."

The Undead (1957)

A beautiful woman is sent back in time via hypnosis to the Middle Ages where she finds she is suspected of being a witch, and subject to being executed.

Wildly imaginative and silly low-budget horror flick has atmosphere, humor and some memorable scenes (especially the witches' dance).

Halliwell (no star): "A tale told by the devil, but signifying no more than the usual ineptly acted fantasy."

Maltin***: "One of Corman's best early films...Lots of atmosphere and black humor, with a neat twist ending."

Mannequin (1937)

White Lion (2010)

When a white lion is miraculously born into that valley, a young Shangaan finds himself destined to protect this rare and magnificent creature at all costs.

Likable family-friendly nature tale is presented in a semi-documentary style and offers a modest ecological message.

War For the Planet of the Apes (2017)

Ben-Hur (2016)

Judah Ben-Hur, a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother, an officer in the Roman army, returns to his homeland after years at sea to seek revenge, but finds redemption.

Unoriginal and superfluous adaptation of the popular novel has some production value and the chariot race is not bad, but the story hardly sparks any interest in the matter.

Cruising (1980)

A police detective goes undercover in the underground S&M gay subculture of New York City to catch a serial killer who is preying on gay men.

From memory: more exploitative than effective thriller seems to revel in the sleazy underworld it presents; still, Al Pacino does another great job in the lead role.

Halliwell (no star): "Alleged thriller with phoney pretensions and repellent detail."

Maltin*1/2: "...distasteful, badly scripted film. Gay world is presented as sick, degrading, and ritualistic."
