The Hideous Sun Demon (1958)

 

After exposure to radiation, an atomic research scientist finds himself changing into a murderous, lizard-like creature every time he is exposed to sunlight.

Silly low-budget sci-fi horror flick is good for some unintentional laughs, especially for the ridiculous monster costume.

Halliwell (no star): "Simple-minded science fiction featuring the producer-director-star in an ill-fitting monster costume."

Queen of Blood (1966)

An alien species makes contact with Earth through radio transmission, notifying of an imminent visit. An alien ship crash lands on Mars, and a rescue team is sent.

Above-average, imaginative sci-fi horror on a low budget makes good use of material from the Soviet science fiction film Nebo Zovyot and inspired all those alien monster loose on the spaceship flicks (including Alien).

Maltin**!/2: "Eerie space opera (utilizing effects footage cribbed from a big-budget Russian film)...Best thing is the bizarre climax, if you can wait that long."

The Fall, Season 2 (2014)

DSI Gibson must draw closer to identify and track down Belfast's serial killer as he realises that someone from his past has been helping the police with their enquiries. Spector is forced to change his plans with terrifying consequences.

The second season continues in the same good quality as the first, but moves very slowly to the missing conclusion of the latter, more concerned about the psychological aspects of the plot than the criminal investigation.

Entertainingly silly and sleazy monster flick on a low budget.

The Fall, Season 1 (2013)

A seemingly cold but very passionate policewoman goes head to head with a seemingly passionate father who is in fact a cold serialist in this procedural out of Belfast.

Compelling crime drama with great atmosphere and extraordinary performances creates suspense, but this first season very disappointingly ends in mid-air, although the conclusion is clearly at hand.
