Cape Fear (1962)
A lawyer's family is stalked by a man he once helped put in jail.
Classic high tension thriller with Robert Mitchum delivering one of the best deranged villain performances in cinema history; however, the right-wing flavoring of the story stains the otherwise good impression of the movie as a whole.
Halliwell (no star): "Unpleasant and drawn out suspenser with characters of cardboard and situations from stock."
Maltin***: "Mitchum is memorably (and believably) creepy...Dated only on its lack of explicitness, but still daring for its time."
Eve of Destruction (1991)
A terrorist hunter is hired by a scientist to deactivate her android double, a walking, talking, murderous nuclear bomb which has gone amok in the big city and is about to explode.
Mediocred and highly dated sci-fi action nonsense with a dubious stance about female empowerment.
Maltin**: "This muddled FRANKENSTEIN variation might have worked with a better script, and without a point of view that manages to at the same time be reverse-sexist and anti-feminist. Soutendijk gives her all in a dual role..."

Smokin' Aces (2006)
When a Las Vegas performer-turned-snitch decides to turn state's evidence and testify against the mob, it seems that a whole lot of people would like to make sure he's no longer breathing.
A Tarantino wannabe thriller lacking his wit and plot consistency; overladen with characters and plot threads, indecisive in its tone and with a unexpected and unconvincing twist ending.
Maltin*1/2: "Good cast can't save this patchwork of farce, action, and drama...Keys is solid in her screen debut as one of the bounty hunters, but the story is a mess and director Carnahan seems to be in love with ludicrous, over-the-top violence."
